Secondary Education - Second Degree Articulation Agreement with Northwest State Community College

We are excited that you are pursuing a secondary teaching degree.  At PFW, we offer secondary teaching licenses in collaboration with several different content areas.  We do this through a Dual Degree program.  This means that each student earns a degree in the content area as well as a separate degree in Secondary Education.  Even though it is a dual degree program, we accept up to 66 credits from Northwest State Community College.

At the time you are admitted to PFW, you will declare your majors with the Department of your content area (e.g., English, Physics) and the School of Education.

Program Requirements

  1. Completion of the A.A. or A.S. degree at Northwest State Community College for a program with an existing articulation agreement.  No course grade lower than a C- and a minimum of a 2.0 overall GPA is required for admission. Students interested in secondary teaching are strongly encouraged to take EDU 100 Introduction to Teaching and EDU 220 Special Education as part of their 66 credits. If those arean’t transferred in, the equivalent course(s) will need to be completed at PFW.
  2. Students must apply for admission to their content area and professional education.  The admission standards for professional education require a minimum 2.70 cumulative GPA (PFW) as well as a 2.70 cumulative GPA in your major course work with at least 50% completed in major is required.
  3. For graduation, a 2.70 cumulative GPA and 2.70 major GPA are required.
  4. All students are expected to meet the same student learning outcomes and program requirements for their content-area degree and the secondary education degree.  Additional program requirements exist for all students in their content area and the B.S.Ed. in Secondary Education; see Secondary Education - Second Degree  and the program page for your content area degree for additional details.
  5. You are responsible for satisfying the graduation requirements specified for each degree program.  Thus, it is essential that you develop a thorough understanding of the required courses, academic policies and procedures governing your academic career.  All requests for exceptions to specific requirements must be made in writing and may be granted only by written approval from the appropriate chairs or deans.
  6. Students are recommended to work closely with the lead advisor for the content area and the College’s advisor as well as the lead advisor for the Department of Teacher Education to be sure they are satisfying the graduation requirements for both degrees and adhering to all academic policies.
  7. List of Major courses and supporting courses required at PFW follow.
