Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this degree, students will:
- Renew their commitment to teaching toward a carefully considered vision of schools and society.
- Cultivate supportive learning communities in their classrooms through disciplined inquiry into themselves, their students, and the relationships among them.
- Plan and embark on a research project that offers insight into life and learning in their classrooms.
- Design traditional and authentic classroom assessment tools, and utilize data from these and standardized tests to plan effective instruction for their students.
- Adjust their learning environments, curriculum, instruction, and assessments to facilitate maximum learning for all their students, including those with special needs.
- Develop specialized expertise in one or more content areas or education subdisciplines in order to strengthen their instructional practice and teacher leadership
The Degree:
To earn the Master of Science in Education with a major in Elementary Education, you must satisfactorily complete the required minimum of 30 graduate credit hours, and you must satisfy the requirements of Purdue University Fort Wayne (Regulations) and the School of Education.
- It is recommended that students take the five core courses in the first year of their program followed by the five elective courses.
- At least 15 of the 30 total credits toward the M.S.Ed. must be completed at Purdue University Fort Wayne.
Admission Requirement: Please note that Admission to the Purdue Fort Wayne Elementary Education graduate program requires an official transcript reflecting 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 Grade Point Average Scale.
In addition, all students must submit the following documentation for admission to the program:
- Application Fee
- Transcripts
- Two (2) Professional Letters of Recommendation
- Academic Statement of Purpose
- Personal History Statement

The scorecard shows data for the university such as graduation rate, average annual cost, and median earnings. Then, when certain minimum standards have been met, data are available for a specific program. That data could include median earnings, median total debt, and number of graduates. Student Responsibility
You are responsible for satisfying the graduation requirements specified for your selected program. Thus, it is essential that you develop a thorough understanding of the required courses, academic policies and procedures governing your academic career. If you cannot complete all program requirements by your stated graduation date but fail to remove those from your plan of study, the Registrar’s Office in consultation with your academic advisor will remove unmet pursuits from your plan of study. All requests for exceptions to specific requirements must be made in writing and may be granted only by written approval from the Graduate Director.
