Theatre (BA) 4-Year Plan Directing (Even Years)

For Theatre majors with a concentration in Directing entering in even years.
In June 2021, the Purdue University Board of Trustees adopted a civics literacy graduation requirement for undergraduates, including all transfer students. This requirement applies to all undergraduate students who enter Purdue University Fort Wayne in Fall 2022 or any subsequent semester. There are three different pathways:
Civics Event pathway - Attend four approved civics-related events and pass the required exam; or
Civics Literacy Recordings pathway - Complete four recordings located in the Civics Literacy Brightspace module and pass the required exam; or
Approved course pathway - Complete any approved course and pass the required exam. The exam is independent of the approved course. Course options include both Gen Ed and Elective offerings.

Fall 2nd Year
General Education Courses Cr. 9.
- Category B5 Social/Behavioral Ways of Knowing - Any approved course.
- Category B6 Humanistic/Artistic Ways of Knowing - Any approved course.
- Category B7 Interdisciplinary Ways of Knowing - Any approved course.
- THTR 16800 - Theatre Production I Cr. 1 or 2.
- THTR 47000 - Theatre And Society I Cr. 3.
- THTR 36500 - Period Style For The Theatre I Cr. 3.
* NB-The Theatre major requires one technology course, either Lighting Techniques, offered every fall, or Costume Tecnnology, offered every spring. This requirement should be completed by the end of sophomore year. If the student wishes to complete this requirement this term, it should swap out with one of the general education courses.
Fall 3rd Year
- THTR 32300 - Acting: Movement For The Actor Cr. 3.
- THTR 32510 - History Of Modern Drama Cr. 3.
NB–History of Modern Drama fulfills both the writing requirement for the theatre core and also a general education B7 requirement. If the student chooses to have this course count for both, the student will still need to fulfill an additional 3 credits as electives to meet the graduation requirement of 120 credits. - THTR 36100 - Costume Design Cr. 3.
NB–One Design Choice is required for Theatre Core and another Design Choice is required for the Directing Concentration. Options are: THTR 36000 Scenic Design , THTR 36100 Costume Design , or THTR 36200 Light Design. In order to fulfill the Directing Concentration design requirement, Scenic Design specifically must be completed. For the major requirement, either Costume or Lighting are options.
If the student chooses not to take Costume Design this term, then swap out this option with a still needed general eduation course. - THTR 44000 - Directing: Page To Stage Cr. 3.
GENERAL EDUCATION, ELECTIVE OR CONCENTRATION COURSE(S) Cr. 3-6.
Choose a combination of one or two courses that fulfill either the elective courses or the requirements of the chosen Concentration. If the student opts to take Costume Design, he/she should only take one course in this category.
Spring 3rd Year
- THTR 16800 - Theatre Production I Cr. 1 or 2.
MAJOR, ELECTIVE, GENERAL EDUCATION OR CONCENTRATION COURSES Cr. 12
Choose a combination of three to five courses that fulfill either the elective courses, the General Education Core courses or the requirements of the chosen Concentration
- THTR 13600 - Rehearsal And Performance I Cr. 1 or 2.
NB–The Directing Concentration requires 1-2 credits of rehearsal and performance, to be completed at any time during the college career.
Fall 4th Year
- THTR 36200 - Light Design Cr. 3.
NB-One Design Choice is required for Theatre Core and another Design Choice is required for the Directing Concentration. Options are: THTR 36000 Scenic Design , THTR 36100 Costume Design , or THTR 36200 Light Design. In order to fulfill the Directing Concentration design requirement, Scenic Design specifically must be completed. For the major requirement, either Costume or Lighting are options.
If the student chooses not to take Light Design this term, then swap out this option with a still needed general education course.
ADDITIONAL ELECTIVE, CONCENTRATION, MAJOR OR GENERAL EDUCATION COURSES Cr. 9-12.
Spring 4th Year
CHOOSE ANY STILL NEEDED GENERAL EDUCATION, ELECTIVE, CONCENTRATION OR MAJOR COURSES Cr. 3-9
- THTR 36000 - Scenic Design Cr. 3.

Options are: THTR 36000 Scenic Design , THTR 36100 Costume Design , or THTR 36200 Light Design. If the student chooses not to take Light Design this term, then swap out this option with a still needed general education course. - THTR 54000 - Advanced Directing Cr. 3.
NB–Advanced Directing may be completed any time in the junior or senior year, as long as the student has completed the directing courses, THTR 44000, and has the approval of the faculty mentor.
