The B.S.Ed. in elementary education with an emphasis in education studies is intended to prepare students for successful careers in diverse areas, including working in or directing after school programs or in informal education organizations such as Science Central, the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo and the Fort Wayne Urban League. This degree does not lead to a teacher license.
To earn the Education Studies (nonlicensure) Elementary (B.S.Ed.), you must satisfy the requirements of Purdue University Fort Wayne (Regulations ) and the School of Education .
Grades of C- or higher are required in each course used toward this degree. Minimum 2.70 cumulative grade point average is required for graduation.
Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of a major in Education Studies students will:

- Become change agents by demonstrating reflective professional practice
- Solve client problems through clear, creative analyses
- Assess client performance, creating and executing effective teaching, counseling, and educational leadership by utilizing a variety of methodologies reflecting current related research
- Utilize interdisciplinary scholarship, demonstrating technology and critical literacies, and effectively communicating with all stakeholders.

General Education Requirements: Credits 33
Student are expected to complete a minimum of 3 credits in each of the following categories: 1) Foundational Intellectual Skills (A1, A2, and A3); 2) Ways of Knowing (B4, B5, B6, and B7); and Capstone (C8). Then, an additional 9 credits can be completed in Foundational Intellectual Skills and/or Ways of Knowing categories. Several of the general education courses may be completed with Education Studies Major courses, Additional Major Required Courses, First Focus Required Minor courses, and Second Focus required courses below. Select a second area of focus that supports your educational and career goals. This should be either a PFW minor or the Teaching English as a New Language Certificate.
Electives
Complete the required credits to reach the minimum 120 total credit hour requirement.
Student Responsibility
You are responsible for ensuring that you satisfy all graduation requirements specified for each selected program. Thus, it is essential that you develop a thorough understanding of the required courses, academic policies, and procedures governing your academic career. If you cannot complete all program requirements by your stated graduation date but fail to remove those from your plan of study, the Registrar’s Office in consultation with your academic advisor will remove unmet pursuits from your plan of study. Changing curricular records during the graduation term of application may affect state or federal financial aid awards. All requests for exceptions to specific requirements must be made in writing and may be granted only by written approval from the appropriate chair or dean.
