Linguistics Minor

Linguistics is the study of the characteristics of language. Accordingly, linguistics courses are valuable preparation for the study of such subjects as anthropology, communication, education, English, international languages, psychology, sociology, and speech and audiology.  This program is available to all IPFW students except those pursuing the language, teacher-certification, or communication media concentration with a major in English.

You may earn a minor in linguistics by completing the following credits with a grade of C- or better in each course.  At least 6 credits must be earned as resident credit at the 200 level or above.

You may contact the Department of English and Linguistics or your primary advisor/major advisor to declare this minor.

 

Program Requirements


  • One additional LING course numbered 300 or above except LING L303:  3 Credits

One of the following Credits: 3


Or one course in the structure or linguistics of an international language approved by the department.

One of the following Credits: 3


Or one course above the 200 level in linguistics or a related discipline approved by the department.

Total Credits: 15
