Professional staff in the Mastodon Advising Center (MAC) provide a supportive environment; offer class scheduling and curriculum information; assist with decision making; and furnish information on time management, study skills, academic planning, and connecting students with other campus resources matters. See Regulations : Services, for additional information concerning career assistance.

The MAC advisors provided academic advising for The Student Success Program (SSP).

Students offered conditional admission to IPFW are offered a place in the Student Success Program (SSP). Students taking part in the (SSP) program must attend Advising and Registration and New Student Orientation where they will find out more about the program and sign their agreement form.  Students accepted into the (SSP) program will be required to register for a 1 credit IDIS 11000: Freshmen Success course during their first semester. Students who do not earn a “C-“or higher in the class will be required to repeat the class during their second term and must earn a “C-“or higher to meet program requirements. Students failing to earn at least a 2.8 semester GPA their first semester will be required to take another 1 credit success course their second semester, IDIS 29000, focusing on motivation, time management, and study skills. The Student Success Program sets high expectations of its students by encouraging them to actively participate in their own success. Students will be required to meet regularly with their academic advisor, earn a minimum GPA of a 2.0 each semester that they are in the program, and complete at least 24 (dual credit, AP and transfer credit is included) credits within their first two consecutive, regular sixteen-week semesters.

Definitions:

Conditionally Admitted Student: The following students will be offered conditional admission (CO) into MAC:

  • High School (HA) admits with a high school GPA 2.0-2.49 and one of the following;  SAT composite 1120+ (380+ math), ACT 16 (15+ math)
  • Adult (AD) admits: students who graduated high school more than two years prior
  • GED/HSE (GE): GED 540-570, HSE 2764-3019
  • Transfer (TR): students with less than 30 hours of transfer credit and below a 2.0 transfer GPA, or greater than a 2.0 transfer GPA with a high school GPA 2.0-2.49 or test scores per the SAT/ACT/GED/HSE ranges above will be admitted to a pathway in MAC

By accepting their offer of admission and enrolling in classes, students are agreeing to adhere to the conditions of their admission.

Full-time Status in the Student Success Program requires that a student complete a minimum of 12 credits their first semester and at least 12 credits their second semester. Students will need to complete 24 credits during their first two consecutive regular sixteen-week semesters. Only consecutive, regular, sixteen week semesters fulfill Student Success Program requirements. While enrollment in summer semester is permitted, it is not required, and summer enrollment is not calculated in the number of semesters a student has completed in the Student Success Program.

Program Release Full-time students in the Student Success Program must earn a minimum of 24 credits with a cumulative IPFW GPA of at least 2.0 and earn a “C-” or higher in IDIS 11000 and IDIS 2900 (if required).

Full-time Early Release Student may declare their major early if they have completed their first semester, have earned at least twelve credits, have earned at least a C- in IDIS 11000, have earned a 2.8 cumulative GPA or higher, and their intended academic department completes the early release form. 

Part-time Status Students who wish to enroll part-time must indicate their intention to do so no later than the final withdrawal deadline during their first semester and complete a part-time conditional enrollment agreement. Students electing to enroll part-time will be required to complete at least 24 credits within 4 consecutive regular sixteen-week semesters.  Part-time students are required to enroll in IDIS 11000 class during their first semester, and take IDIS 29000 their second semester. While enrollment in summer semester is permitted, it is not required, and summer enrollment is not calculated in the number of semesters a student has completed in the Student Success Program.

Part-Time Early Release Students may declare their major early if they have earned at least twelve credits, have earned at least a C- in IDIS11000 and IDIS 29000 courses, have earned a 2.8 cumulative GPA or higher, and their intended academic department completes the early release form. 

Ineligible to Enroll   Students not fulfilling the requirements of their conditional enrollment will be ineligible to enroll for one semester. Students will be notified of their status by the Mastodon Advising Center.  Students who wish to appeal their ineligibility will appeal through the Admissions appeal committee.  Students who wish to return to IPFW after their period of ineligibility ends will be required to follow the reentry process through the Office of Admissions. Ineligible students who are also academically dismissed, per notification by the Office of the Registrar, will be required to follow the readmission process through the Office of Admissions.

Degree Pathways. Conditional students will be admitted into degree pathways and will be required to take part in programming designed to support their career goals and major choices, per the details of the pathway. (https://www.ipfw.edu/offices/sst/PathwayProgram/)

MAC also provides academic advising for students who were admitted in the following category:

Conditional/Exploratory. Conditional/Exploratory students are students who do not qualify for regular admission into their intended major and would benefit from extra support from their academic advisors. Students admitted to the university as Conditional/Exploring must sign an agreement to abide by specific conditions in order to continue their enrollment at IPFW. Once they have successfully fulfilled their agreement, completed a minimum of 15 credit hours, and earned at least a 2.0 GPA, Conditional/Exploring students may declare their academic major.
