BIOL 51501 - Non-Mendelian Genetics In this course will explore topics and papers on genetic and environmental sources of variation in inherited disorders, and how that variation contributes to the appearance of inheritance patterns that do not follow Mendel’s laws. We will explore the primary research that identifies examples of these factors. Based on this literature, you will write a miniature proposal based on a topic in complex genetics.
Preparation for Course P: BIOL 21800 with grade of C- or better.
Cr. 3. Notes Instructor permission required.
Student Learning Outcomes 1. Analyze external and internal factors influencing phenotypic variation in human disease.
2. Critique and present the contents of a primary research article in a Journal Club/Seminar setting.
3. Create a testable hypothesis based on research of the primary literature and propose an experiment to test that hypothesis.
4. Assess and provide constructive feedback on peer proposals that will improve their hypothesis and experimental design.
