BIOL 51810 - Biomedicine To develop an understanding of the applications of the principles of natural sciences, especially biology and physiology, to modern medicine through evaluation of pre-clinical research.
Preparation for Course P: BIOL 21900 and CHM 25500 or CHM 26100, or Permission of Instructor.
Cr. 3. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Understand the disease process.
2. Identify the process of drug discovery and development.
3. Gain knowledge of the actions of important drugs used clinically and in research.
4. Understand how the actions of new drugs are characterized and how drugs can be used to investigate questions of biological processes and signaling.
5. Identify the use of modern molecular approaches to solve pharmacological problems, and an appreciation of their application to specific biological problems.
6. Identify applied laboratory techniques and analytical approaches in different areas of medicine including the analysis and interpretation of data derived from experiments.
7. Gain experience in the written and oral presentation of scientific data and an appreciation of the scientific literature.
