LING 10500 - Academic Writing, Language, And Artificial Intelligence



This course explores the intersections of academic writing, language, and artificial intelligence (AI). Students will develop advanced writing skills while learning how to effectively and ethically integrate AI tools into their writing process. The course covers various aspects of the writing process, including research, drafting, revising, and ethical considerations in using AI. Through a combination of lectures, discussions, hands-on activities, and collaborative projects, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of how AI can enhance their writing and critical thinking skills, differentiate their own writing from AI-generated writing, and learn appropriate usage of AI-generated content.

1. Demonstrate the fundamentals of AI to produce written responses in appropriate formats.
2. Demonstrate an understanding of writing as a social process that includes multiple drafts, collaboration, and reflection.
3. Critique AI-generated content, identifying strengths and weaknesses.
4. Integrate AI tools in writing.
5. Produce thesis statements and properly cite sources in their written assignments.
6. Use AI to identify and assess appropriate rhetorical choices for specific genres of writing.
7. Conduct ethical research.
