DANC 11200 - Introduction To Dance



The emphasis in this course will be on learning the basic fundamentals and gaining a greater appreciation for a variety of dance forms. These forms include zumba, pilates, yoga, ballet, modern, jazz, lyrical, hip-hop, ballroom, line dancing, tap, improvisation and contact improvisation. Thinking, talking and writing about dance will be practiced and encouraged. History and film viewing may be included to enhance what was learned in class. (time permitting).

Student Learning Outcomes
1.  Established an understanding of and appreciation for the expressive nature and physical intelligence of the human body.
2.  Learned the basic fundamentals for a variety of dance forms.
3.  Will achieve basic steps and be more comfortable with personal range of motion.
4.  Will have greater knowledge of how to talk about, think about and write about dance.
5.  Will have observed and discussed several professional dancers of all styles on film.
6.  Will have been a part of creating original choreography.
