MUSC 38314 - Mastering
An in-depth exploration of mastering topics such as advanced equalization, dynamics, and audio preservation and restoration, including best practices of digital audio manipulation and modern deliverable requirements. Throughout the course, students will master a number of provided recordings in a variety of Billboard chart-related styles. This work requires students to organize, implement, and execute large multi-song mastering projects executing technically and creatively advanced mastering techniques and preparing albums for contemporary streaming formats.
Preparation for Course P: MUSC 20500 with a grade of C- or better.
C: MUSC 38313.
Cr. 2. Notes MUSC 38313 and MUSC 38314 must be taken together. Additional $50 lab fee charge.
Restricted to: BSM Popular Music degree-seeking students, BM Music Technology degree-seeking students and Music Technology minor students. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Develop advanced technical and critical listening skills.
2. Create album-length high-quality masters (technically and musically) via integrated DAW and hybrid technical facilities including Wavelab, Ozone, and ProTools.
3. Demonstrate advanced proficiency in music mastering procedures.
4. Demonstrate command of concepts, terminology, and procedures related to the field of music mastering and commercial release.
5. Create presentations based upon research.
