MUSC 10600 - Film Music And Sound

We often take for granted the audible elements of film, but along with the image track, the soundtrack tells us a film’s story. This course introduces students to music and sound in film through three approaches: analysis, interpretation, and hands-on projects. The class traces the history of narrative Hollywood film-while also introducing other traditions-and focuses on uses of music and sound from the silent era to the present. No prior musical experience is required beyond enthusiasm and willingness to listen and watch critically.
