THTR 33200 - Musical Theatre Vocal Styles And Repertoire



Vocal techniques and styles for a range of repertoire as they exist in musical theatre covered in this course. Instruction includes development of singing skills, movement, acting, interpretation of songs and staging. Students are required to prepare a final project of excerpts from a range of standard works. Attendance at all scheduled performances is required.

Preparation for Course
P: THTR 23300, THTR 33300, and THTR 23900 with grades of C- or better.

Restricted to BFA Musical Theatre majors, or concentration in Musical Theatre, or by permission of the department.
Student Learning Outcomes
1. Identify and produce appropriate vocal techniques and musical style for the various genres of musical theater repertoire.
2. Integrate skills of healthy vocal production into appropriate solo and ensemble repertoire.
3. Apply acting theory learned in other courses of the theatre major to character development, objectives and tactics employed while singing.
4. Rehearse and perform all assigned music, working with the director, pianist and actors in ensembles of all sizes.
