THTR 43600 - Shakespeare: Contemporary Performance



An introduction to the skills needed to perform the texts of William Shakespeare at a professional level. A continuation of the development of each student’s personal acting process and how to apply Stanislavski-based acting skills, as well as other acting methodologies, to the works of Shakespeare.

Student Learning Outcomes
1. Read and comprehend the works of William Shakespeare.
2. Understand and apply scansion to any Shakespearean text written in verse.
3. Apply and connect modern acting techniques to Shakespeare’s works.
4. Make authentic acting choices while maintaining strict adherence to the Shakespeare’s words, intentions and rhythms.
5. Understand and apply skills necessary to perform heightened-text to a modern audience.
