OLS 33800 - Leadership In Sports



This course explores the diverse landscape of the sports industry and equips students with evidence-based leadership strategies that help achieve and sustain peak performance among athletes of all backgrounds. You will learn how to make fair and ethical decisions that build well-rounded athletes and catalyze excellence within sports organizations.

1. Apply appropriate leadership theories and models to effectively motivate, guide, and support athletes and sports teams.
2. Analyze the unique challenges of sports leadership, including team dynamics, coaching philosophies, athlete motivation techniques, and fostering a culture of excellence.
3. Make ethical decisions in sports leadership situations, ensuring fairness, integrity, and responsible conduct within athletic programs and organizations.
4. Develop strategies to build cohesive, high-performing sports teams/organizations and foster positive, supportive environments for athletes.
5. Create personalized development plans to nurture athletes’ strengths, skills, and character for well-rounded performance.
6. Cultivate resilience and mental fortitude in athletes/coaches to help them learn from failures, overcome adversity, and excel under pressure.
