ITC 41400 - Information Assurance
This course introduces the fundamental topics of information assurance and security. It examines the analysis, design, implementation, and security policies issues to provide information security for enterprise system. The course provides an overview of methodologies, procedures, and technologies in information assurance. Topics include risk assessment, access control, authentication, symmetric and asymmetric cryptography, network monitoring and control, email and web application security. Wireless security, security protocols, virus protection, firewalls, and various attacks are also covered.
Preparation for Course P: CPET 28100 or ITC 18000 or ITC 33100.
Cr. 3. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Understand the terminology of threats, vulnerabilities, and controls.
2. Construct proper security plans and the creation of security policies.
3. Apply access control in Microsoft Active Directory.
4. Understand elementary cryptography principles and apply encryption to enhance information security.
5. Implement security policies in the protection of General-Purpose Operating Systems.
6. Troubleshoot infected or comprised systems.
7. Use software to identify vulnerabilities in computer systems and network devices.
8. Classify possible network threats.
9. Familiarize legal, privacy and ethical issues in computer security.
10. Enable learning through use of manuals, handbooks, technical references, web sites, and material/equipment specifications in the management of security.
