MUSC 49800 - Intensive Introduction To Music Therapy Practice
A comprehensive overview of the clinical practice and profession of music therapy, including the four methods, clientele populations and settings, history of the profession, and the standards and ethics governing professional practice. Includes clinical observation hours. This course does not count towards credit requirements for the MMT degree.
Cr. 4. Notes Restricted to students admitted into the Music Therapy (BSMT) program. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Define and verbally communicate a functional definition of music therapy.
2. Demonstrate basic competency in the four methods of music therapy.
3. Apply the elements of music that have direct effect on human cognition, psychology, and behavior.
4. Apply the specific aspects of music experience that make it appropriate for therapeutic intervention.
5. Identify population clientele in music therapy practice, and apply the four methods of music therapy to address goals and objective specific to each population.
6. Verbally communicate the role of music therapy in a variety of healthcare settings.
7. Identify and describe the therapeutic process of music therapy based on observation of clinical interaction between therapist and client(s).
8. Illustrate how the history of music as a therapeutic intervention influenced the development of the music therapy profession.
9. Demonstrate a basic understanding of ethical principles that apply to clinical and professional aspects of music therapy.
