MUSC 35800 - Applied Music Therapy Methods
An applied clinical music course focused on the selection and implementation of the four music therapy methods of re-creation, composition, improvisation, and receptive experience. Includes identification of contraindications for clinical use and demonstration of clinical skills for various settings and clientele.
Preparation for Course P: MUSC 29800.
Cr. 2. Notes Restricted to students admitted into the Music Therapy (BSMT) program. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Verbalize knowledge of the four music therapy methods and the opportunities and demands of each.
2. Demonstrate skills in engaging others in clinical music experiences in a variety of variations of the four music therapy methods.
3. Verbalize specific contraindications for the use of each of the four music therapy methods.
4. Demonstrate means of adaptation of the methods variations for a variety of settings and clientele.
5. Develop skill in the use of method variations as a means of transition within the therapeutic process.
6. Verbalize and demonstrate understanding of translation of musical information into behavioral information for assessment, treatment planning, and documentation.
