ITC 39000 - IT Ethics And Law
This course will introduce the ethics and laws that are involved in Information Technology and the computing disciplines. Topics covered involve intellectual property, privacy, freedom of expression, technology crimes, social networking issues, and laws associated with the development of technology.
Cr. 3. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Understand what ethics are.
2. Demonstrate knowledge of ethics as they apply to IT specifically.
3. Be able to apply ethical knowledge to IT situations.
4. Understand various computer crimes and their implications.
5. Understand privacy rights in IT.
6. Understand how freedom of expression and 1st amendment rights apply to IT.
7. Know what intellectual property is and how it can and can’t be used.
8. Know the difference between copyrights, patents and trade secrets.
9. Understand software development quality and product liability.
10. Understand the ethical issues involved with the use social media.
11. Understand the ethical issues of IT employees.
12. Understand laws that apply to IT.
