PSY 44600 - Advanced Research In Human Memory And Cognition
This course provides an overview of experimental methods and issues relevant to the area of human memory and cognition. Students will learn about decisions that researchers make during each step of designing and implementing an empirical study. Hands-on experience will be gained through examination of published studies, laboratory exercises, and development of an empirical project in the area of memory and cognition. Students will also learn to use software tools that help with collection and analysis of data.
Preparation for Course P: PSY 20300 with grade of C- or better and senior class standing, or 33 credits in psychology.
R: PSY 31100 or 41600.

Demonstrate a more sophisticated understanding of psychology as a science including a general understanding of the scientific method as it is used to create and evaluate new knowledge in the discipline.
2. Demonstrate a basic understanding of the typical methods used to conduct, analyze, and interpret psychological research in particular in the area of human memory and cognition.
3. Demonstrate an ability to critically evaluate research ideas and designs.
4. Demonstrate an understanding of scientific writing (APA styles) and the ability to integrate ideas from multiple sources.
5. Demonstrate an understanding of the ethical responsibilities of researchers when conducting research.
6. Develop basic skills in the use of software as it relates to gathering and conducting research in the discipline.
