MUSC 15400 - Music Therapy Method Basics I
An overview of the re-creative and receptive music therapy methods and their variations involving active music engagement and interactive experiences.
Cr. 1. Notes Must be admitted into the Music Therapy (BSMT) program. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Verbalize and demonstrate knowledge of compositional and improvisatory music therapy method variations.
2. Verbalize the differences in opportunities and demands related to different music therapy method variations.
3. Develop awareness of one’s own and others’ physical, cognitive, psychological, social, and spiritual responses to various types of music engagement.
4. Give constructive and supportive verbal feedback to others, and demonstrate ability to accept constructive and supportive feedback from others.
AMTA Professional Competencies: This course is intended to assist the student in developing competency in the following areas:
10.1 Apply basic knowledge of music therapy methods, techniques, materials, and equipment with their appropriate applications.
13.11 Promote a sense of group cohesiveness and/or a feeling of group membership.
13.12 Develop and maintain a repertoire of music for age, culture, and stylistic differences.
17.7 Express thoughts and personal feelings in a consistently constructive manner.
