ECON 47101 - Econometric Theory And Practice
An introduction to contemporary econometric theory and empirical techniques, with a focus on implementation using the statistical programming environment for statistical computation and graphics. Topics include foundational material including OLS and experiments, and contemporary techniques including instrumental variables and regression discontinuity.
Preparation for Course P: ECON 20101, 20201 and 27000 with grades of C- or better.
Junior or senior class standing.
Cr. 3. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Explain the empirical challenges which an econometric technique can address.
2. Describe the conditions required for the valid use of an econometric technique, and how to provide evidence about whether the conditions are met.
3. Use the statistical programming environment to manage data, perform econometric analyses, and generate tabular and graphical output.
4. Report and interpret econometric output appropriately given the data and context to which the econometric technique has been applied.
