ITC 33100 - Networks I
A study of issues in local area network (LAN) planning, design, installation, and management. Topics include LAN components and protocols, topologies and network architecture, network system hardware consideration. LAN design and network layout, wiring and installation, network operating systems, network servers, connection and servers, connection and services for clients, network system administration and management. Other topics may include LAN applications, performance tuning, disaster recovery, hybrid networking environment and integration, network monitoring tools, and network management tools. Laboratory experiences include Microsoft Windows 2008 and UNIX.
Preparation for Course P: CPET 18100 or ITC 11000 or ITC 23000.
Cr. 3. Hours Class 2, Lab 2. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Provide knowledge of LAN components, protocols, topologies, and network architecture.
2. Install Network Operating Systems (NOS) such as Windows and Unix/Linux.
3. Describe methodology and tools needed in LAN management.
4. Use manuals, handbooks, technical references, Web sites, and material/equipment specifications in the management of a LAN.
5. Identify network points of failure and implement disaster recovery.
6. Administer rights and privileges pertaining to a local area network.
7. Configure and maintain the different services of Window Server.
8. Understand networking between Window and Unix/Linux.
