EDU 34900 - Infant And Toddler Curriculum
This course explores the developmental milestones, caregiving practices, and learning environments that support infants and toddlers from birth to age three. Students will examine theories of early development, responsive caregiving, and the importance of relationships in fostering healthy growth. Emphasis is placed on observation, documentation, and assessment strategies to understand individual differences and promote inclusive practices. Through readings, discussions, and hands-on experiences, students will gain insight into the role of early childhood professionals in nurturing the whole child. This course requires a field placement in an early childhood center/program.
Cr. 3. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Apply theories of development to children between birth and three years of age.
2. Identify and demonstrate knowledge of teachers’ roles in enhancing infant and toddler development.
3. Use diverse assessment methods to observe and analyze the developmental progress, unique characteristics, and interpersonal relationships of infants and toddlers.
4. Select materials, create engaging environments and curriculum for infants and toddlers that reflects knowledge of best practices, diversity and individual rights, interests, and capabilities.
5. Build reciprocal relationships with families of infants and toddlers.
6. Reflect on one’s own personal and professional values and beliefs (e.g., best practices, diversity, and children’s individual rights, interests, capabilities) and how you would problem-solve conflict over values and beliefs.
7. Identify strategies for advocating for practices that benefit young children and their families.
