AD 10202 - Introduction To 2-D Design
This course introduces the creative design as well as formal principles and elements used in two-dimensional design. The course includes regular readings, lectures, demonstrations, discussions, studio assignments in various media, and group critiques of student work.
Preparation for Course P: In a program of the Department of Art and Design.
Cr. 3. Hours Studio. 6. Notes Minimum grade of C- required to count towards any program of the Department of Art and Design. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Utilize perceptual and conceptual skills to solve problems creatively in art/design media.
2. Demonstrate an increased visual sensitivity and creativity.
3. Demonstrate the ability to generate ideas and grapple with concepts in order to create work that intentionally communicates ideas through visual elements.
4. Become aware of the pivotal role perception plays in analysis and the creative process.
5. Become self-motivated and engaged in their own growth and expression as artists/designers.
6. Implement design principles to create compelling and effective works of art and design in a variety of traditional and digital media.
7. Explore the formal elements of two- and three-dimensional design elements, and how to intentionally manipulate the character of elements in order to communicate an idea or concept.
8. Explore how the application of design principles contribute to the overall success of a work
9. Acquire an understanding of how context affects meaning and what is communicated.
10. Demonstrate an understanding and competency of technical skills in traditional and digital art/design media to effectively communicant and express ideas.
11. Demonstrate proficiency in a range of skills appropriate and essential to an artist/designer.
12. Demonstrate the ability to intentionally and effectively create compositions in a variety of media and formats.
13. Become familiar with a broad range of materials and techniques in traditional and digital media.
14. Analyze and critique works of art/design in verbal and written forms, using visual vocabulary and a familiarity with the works and intentions of major artists/designers and movements of the past and present.
15. Demonstrate the ability to evaluate their own work and the work of peers through individual and group critique.
