CRIM 43900 - Crime And Public Policy



A detailed examination of the major efforts designed to control or reduce crime. A review of existing knowledge is followed by an investigation of current crime control theories, proposals, and programs.

Preparation for Course
P: CRIM 10100 with grade of C- or better and senior class standing, or consent of instructor.

1.  Understand the history and origins of the most prevalent criminal justice policies.
2.  Develop knowledge about assumptions and rationales behind the selected policies.
3.  Recognize information that provides empirical status of specific policies.
4.  Establish a basis of knowledge to discuss and debate conflicting viewpoints focused on controversial issues in criminal justice policies.
5.  Analyze information pertinent to possible alternative criminal justice policies.
