CRIM 23100 - Corrections
This course examines the historical development of the U.S. correctional system; the study of administration of local, state, and federal corrections programs, including jails, probation, community corrections, and prisons. Includes the study of punishment rationales, current correctional policies, and possibilities for reform.
Preparation for Course P: CRIM 10100 with grade of C- or better.
Cr. 3. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Identify the roles of corrections in the larger criminal justice system.
2. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the sentencing process in state and federal court systems.
3. Outline a variety of correctional treatment modalities including reentry and behavioral/cognitive therapies.
4. Develop a presentence report, utilizing federal sentencing guidelines and including aggravating and mitigating factors.
5. Criticize correctional philosophies, including punishment, deterrence, rehabilitation and restoration.
