MUSC 33801 - The Art Of Teaching Choral Musicians I
Development and organization of administration of choral music programs in the elementary and middle school. Emphasis on auditioning and placement, vocal production, rehearsal techniques, and appropriate choral literature.
Cr. 2. Notes Restricted to students admitted into a music degree program. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Select and develop a working collection of appropriate literature for a variety of elementary and middle school choral music ensembles.
2. Demonstrate and teach appropriate vocal technique.
3. Demonstrate knowledge of the pre-adolescent and adolescent voice.
4. Plan and implement choral rehearsals that include direct instruction of musical concepts using a variety of techniques.
5. Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate materials and techniques for teaching musicianship within the choral rehearsal.
6. Develop a variety of appropriate assessment strategies based on state and national standards.
7. Demonstrate knowledge of administrative activities specific to choral music educators.
8. Acquire a working knowledge of the IMEA Large Group and Solo& Ensemble Adjudicated Events.
9. Build a resource file of teaching activities, techniques and repertoire.
10. Identify errors in choral examples, building musicianship skills and tools to correct similar issues in the classroom.
