MUSC 33701 - The Art Of Teaching Beginner Instrumentalist
Instrumental music as a means of developing music skills, understandings, and attitudes in elementary and secondary school students.
Preparation for Course P: MUSC 21400, 21601, 29700, 29900, and three of the following: MUSC 26100, 27200, 28100, 33700, 33800.
C: MUSC 31700.
Cr. 2. Notes Restricted to students admitted into a music degree program. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Identify and select quality repertoire and instructional texts for band and orchestra of varying levels and discern implications of repertoire as curriculum.
2. Analyze appropriate instrumental method books and materials relevant to developing techniques and improving musicianship in the elementary and secondary instrumental classroom.
3. Discuss current issues and trends related to teaching in the elementary and secondary instrumental classroom.
4. Design curriculum with consideration to instructional design procedures, comprehensive musicianship, and national music standards appropriate for the elementary and secondary instrumental classroom.
5. Plan for the developmental abilities of instrumentalists at different levels in the elementary and secondary instrumental classroom. (beginner, intermediate, advanced).
6. Analyze and plan for administrative practices as they relate to teaching in the elementary and secondary instrumental classroom.
