MUSC 42100 - Music Therapy Practicum IV



 Students work with an MT-BC to provide music therapy services focusing on the process of treatment from assessment through evaluation and on the development of therapeutic self. Involves clinical hours and attendance at weekly seminar.

Preparation for Course
P: MUSC 35400 and PSY 35000 with grades of C- or better. Instructor approval required.

Student Learning Outcomes
1.  Develop therapeutic relationships with clients that maintain appropriate boundaries and provide interpersonal experiences that support client development.
2.  Demonstrate self-awareness through use of limited and appropriate self-disclosure.                                        
3.  Interpret the musical and interpersonal behaviors of clients for assessment of strengths and needs.
4.  Develop verbal skills to support client discussion and interaction, and to encourage client awareness and appropriate self-disclosure.   
5.  Create musical and interpersonal spaces that are respectful of cultural differences and foster feelings of safety for the client.                                                      
6.  Use verbal techniques to deepen the client’s engagement in the therapeutic process.
7.  Reflect on the client’s music, communications, and behavior to evaluate progress in therapy and identify needed change in therapeutic  approach.
8.  Modify approach in the moment in response to client need or change.   
9.  Develop documentation skills to concisely and accurately communicate assessment information and therapeutic progress using both musical and related behavioral evidence.
