MUSC 35400 - Music Therapy Practicum III
Students work with an MT-BC to provide music therapy services with emphasis on the process of assessment, treatment and evaluation. Includes clinical hours and attendance at weekly seminar.
Preparation for Course P: MUSC 35300 with grade of C- or better. Must be admitted into the Music Therapy (BSMT) program.
Cr. 1. Notes May be repeated for credit. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate understanding of the opportunities and challenges inherent in music experiences in relation to the clinical needs of clients.
2. Prepare treatment that follows directly from assessment findings and is reflective of the client’s needs and preferences.
3. Develop and utilize documentation strategies for collecting session data.
4. Implement method variations that are structured to support client engagement.
5. Develop effective verbal skills to cue, give directives, and encourage engagement.
6. Develop effective musical skills for supporting the therapeutic process of the client.
7. Utilize new technologies to increase client engagement.
8. Demonstrate flexibility in responding to changes in client need as they occur in the session.
9. Utilize culturally appropriate musical styles and genres in the implementation of method variations.
10. Use documentation to concisely and accurately communicate goals, objectives, client progress, and treatment plans.
