GER 42500 - 20th Century German Literature
Survey of major developments in the literature of the German-speaking countries since 1890. Moments of historical and cultural interest will be discussed as they are reflected in the literature. Writing of Hofmannsthal, Rilke, Thomas Mann, Kafka, Hesse, Brecht, and others.
Preparation for Course P: GER 20401 or equivalent or permission of the instructor.
Cr. 3. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate understanding of major ideas and concepts in this field, including all the major subfields and their distinct characteristics or applications.
2. Demonstrate understanding of the key tasks, research practices and debates associated with the field.
3. Demonstrate the ability to utilize in the analysis of concrete examples the most common and significant analytical frameworks and research tools used by researchers in this field.
