GER 41100 - Advanced German Grammar
Survey and practice of complex grammatical structures; systematic expansion of vocabulary. Discussion and writing based on current materials, such as newspapers, films, and radio programs.
Preparation for Course P: GER 20401 or equivalent or permission of the instructor.
Cr. 3. Notes Eligible for graduate credit; but not toward M.A. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate competency in and control of major grammatical concepts in each of the four language skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening).
2. Demonstrate the ability to write coherent and well-structured paragraphs that answer the anticipated questions of the intended audience.
3. Demonstrate the ability to write and tell a complex story about past events, both historical and personal.
4. Demonstrate the ability to express an opinion about present and past events.
5. Develop strategies to produce written work with more complex constructions at the sentence, paragraph and essay levels.
6. Recognize writing as a process that requires constant revision.
7. Demonstrate in both written and spoken formats the ability to formulate an argument and support it with evidence in a sophisticated organizational structure.
8. Develop through written and oral expression the ability to compare, contrast and analyze connections between diverse political, social and cultural realities in the German-speaking world.
9. Improve knowledge of the cultural and socio-political realities in the German-speaking world.
