FNR 52300 - Aquaculture
Historical perspectives and current practices in aquaculture, including production systems, feeds, water quality requirements, and diseases of commercially important species.
Preparation for Course P: BIOL 21700 and BIOL 21900 or Permission of Instructor.
Cr. 3. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Understand general aquaculture knowledge.
2. Describe the fundamental biological, technological, and environmental principles that govern aquaculture.
3. Understand global context: Have a broad understanding of the global aquaculture industry, its current status, and its importance for food production and security.
4. Describe production systems: Compare and contrast different types of aquaculture systems, including recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), marine cage culture, and pond culture.
5. Identify cultivable species: Recognize important cultivable finfish, shellfish, crustaceans, and algae.
6. Master animal husbandry: Apply practical animal husbandry skills for the care and maintenance of aquatic organisms throughout their life cycle.
