AD 22301 - Figure Drawing



Introduction to drawing the human figure using various media and techniques. Basic anatomy; the skeletal and muscular structure of the human figure as related to drawing is included. 

Preparation for Course
P: AD 12100, and in a program of the Department of Art and Design.

Minimum grade of C- required to count towards any program of the Department of Art and Design.
Student Learning Outcomes
1.  Learn how to use a variety of historic and contemporary drawing media. 
2.  Develop skills of observational drawing to capture the form, volume, and movement of the human figure. Sighting and measuring for determining relative proportions, the interaction of positive and negative space for seeing shapes, and value to create the illusion of light moving across a volume. 
3.  Develop a general understanding of the skeletal and muscular structure of the human body.
4.  Learn general proportions of the human body, head, hands, and feet. An emphasis on the overall volume and planes of the human figure is stressed in this course.
5.  Have familiarity with historical and contemporary examples of figure drawing.
6.  Have the ability to conceptualize and articulate ideas reflected in one’s work and critiquing peers’ work as well.
