EDU 40101 - Critical Reading In The Content Area



This course aids prospective secondary teachers in using research-based instructional strategies that support students in comprehending and critically analyzing disciplinary texts. Note: Public school participation is required.

1.  Demonstrate knowledge of foundations of content-area and disciplinary literacy, including scientifically based reading research theories and processes, the role of motivation in literacy development, and the literacy skills required in their chosen discipline. (IDS 7.1)
2.  Select research-based strategies for content-area and disciplinary literacy instruction that align with state standards, suit the established learning objectives, and meet student needs. (IDS 4.3, 7.2)
3.  Employ research-based teaching practices to enhance students’ vocabulary and use of academic language. (IDS 7.3)
