ECON 32800 - Game Theory Goes To The Movies

Game theory is the science of strategic thinking. The objective of this course is to introduce students to the basic tools of game theoretic analysis by synthesizing illustrations from popular films.

Preparation for Course
P: Sophomore or higher class standing.

Cr. 3.
Student Learning Outcomes
1.  Analyze strategic interactions by identifying players, strategies, payoffs, and equilibria, and solve for outcomes using appropriate game-theoretic models.
2.  Formulate and justify mathematical representations of strategic situations, including normal-form and extensive-form games, and demonstrate proficiency in applying solution concepts such as Nash equilibrium and subgame perfection.
3.  Critically evaluate the assumptions and limitations of game-theoretic models and assess their applicability to real-world problems across disciplines.
4.  Communicate game-theoretic reasoning and results in clear, rigorous, and discipline-appropriate forms, both individually and collaboratively, through written work, problem sets, and presentations.
