1.   To provide students a basic understanding of the structure and function of the major types of biomolecules.
2.   To introduce students to mechanistic and kinetic aspects of biocatalysis.
3.   To introduce students to DNA-based technologies such as DNA cloning and genetic engineering.
4.   To introduce students to the biochemical literature including a variety of available online databases.
