BUS 44000 - Human Resources Management
This course covers the theory and practice of managing people in organizations and develops an understanding of human capital that managers can leverage to achieve the objectives of an organization. Topics include: understanding the development of the modern human resource field and its utilization in society and organizations including but not limited to utilization in government programs and policies, labor force statistics; planning, needs forecasting; selection, and training and development.
Preparation for Course P: BUS 30200 with grade of C- or better.
Cr. 3. Notes Enrollment in business (BUS) courses numbered 30100 and above is restricted to students who meet established criteria: business majors who have met the pre-business requirements and been admitted into one of the business majors; or students that have declared other pre-approved programs or minors which require particular business courses, and completed all course prerequisites; or students that have obtained written permission from the department through which the course is offered. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Describe the structure and interrelationships of various forms of resources, capital or assets (tangible and intangible) in organizations.
2. Explain why managers’ selection, deployment, development, and use of resources must align with the strategic management of a given organization.
3. Evaluate the nature of human resource development and utilization in society and organizations as we transition to a Knowledge Age economy.
4. Discuss the current state of government programs and policies, and labor force statistics, and how organizations must integrate their human resource management practices with these.
5. Identify general best practices in personnel planning and needs forecasting, and in the selection, training, and development of human resources.
