BIOL 20300 - Human Anatomy And Physiology
A survey of normal structure and function of the human organism. The human is treated as an open system with the capacity to transport material, transform energy, and maintain a homeostatic state. The capacities and limitations of the human to cope with changes in the environment are emphasized. All major systems of the human body and their functions are examined in relation to the living organism. Integrated into the study of the human organism are laboratory exercises that emphasize the essentials of human anatomy and physiology.
Preparation for Course P: One Year High School Biology and/or One Year High School Chemistry or Equivalent.
Cr. 4. Hours Class 3, Lab. 2. Notes Not available for credit toward graduation for majors in the Department of Biological Sciences. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Identify and describe the arrangement of the human body using the six levels of structural organization (chemical, cellular, tissue, organ, organ system, and the organism level). Emphasize the use of scientific terminology and critical analysis to understand how these structures contribute to overall function.
2. Explain how each organ system works and analyze how these systems integrate to maintain body homeostasis. Use the scientific method to hypothesize, predict, and test physiological processes through experimental or observational data.
3. Evaluate various physiological outcomes that result from the loss of homeostasis. Apply critical thinking and analytical inquiry to interpret laboratory results, differentiate between scientific and non-scientific explanations, and draw conclusions based on evidence.
