BIOL 12600 - Human Biology
Introduction to scientific inquiry with special emphasis on the structure and function of cells, tissues, organs, and systems of the human biology. Topics relate to fitness, nutrition, health, inheritance, evolution, and ecology.
Cr. 3. Student Learning Outcomes 1. Understand how scientific inquiry is conducted and the kinds of questions and answers that are (and are not) meaningful in a scientific context.
2. Develop a basic knowledge and understanding of the major integrating concepts of the biological sciences (chemical basis for life, cell theory, inheritance, and evolution).
3. Appreciate where we come from as a species and where we may be headed.
4. Recognize how we are part of the biosphere, not independent of it.
5. Develop a holistic view of the human animal - that the health and the quality of our lives requires not merely a comprehension of the structure (anatomy) and functioning (physiology) of the human body, but also an understanding of how we have evolved and how we interact with our environment.
