THTR 21200 - Musical Theatre Dance II

This course emphasizes dance terminology, technique and execution of the body of dance repertoire associated with American Musical Theatre. The course is a continuation of the study and practices of American Musical Theatre Dance begun in the first half of this two-course sequence with Musical Theatre Dance I. The two classes are related but each covers a different body of repertoire within the history of the American Musical. Class will include stretching, strengthening, across the floor and center floor combinations. A variety of dance styles typical of a specific collection of American Musical Theatre Repertoire will be included throughout the semester including ballet, modern, tap, jazz and ballroom. Specific musical theatre choreographers will also be studied. Students will learn combinations and practice “mock” auditions throughout the semester.
