The student learning outcomes for the degree are as follows: 

  • Employ professional behaviors which reflect awareness, assertiveness, and accountability.
  • Demonstrate the ability to function as a collaborative team member with beginning leadership skills.
  • Incorporate critical thinking in the application of the nursing process as the basis of nursing practice.
  • Utilize the NSM with evidence based practice to guide and direct the delivery of culturally competent nursing care.
  • Utilize culturally sensitive interpersonal skills in collaboration with healthcare team members to deliver wholistic nursing care.
  • Determine the relevance of digital information when applied to healthcare issues.

The Associate of Science with a major in nursing (A.S.) program at IPFW is one choice in the journey to an exciting career in nursing. Highly qualified faculty guide nursing students in their educational preparation for beginning-level nursing practice as registered nurses. Earning the A.S. allows the student to take the state RN licensure examination. The association degree graduate is prepared to provide nursing care within structured healthcare organizations.
