The concentration in Journalism and Media Production is designed to provide students with theoretical, conceptual, and practical skills that they will need as media professionals. The area will prepare students with essential production techniques for today’s digital media environment and provide experiences developing projects across fiction and nonfiction content. Students will learn how to research, write, interview, edit and produce news and entertainment content for different audiences and platforms, including newspapers, magazines, film, television, radio, podcasts, websites and social media
Student Learning Outcomes for the Journalism and Media Production Concentration:
Upon completion of this concentration, students will be able to:
- Think critically, creatively, and independently
- Demonstrate a critical understanding of the historical, theoretical, aesthetic, cultural and institutional contexts of film, television, newspaper, and other electronic and digital mass media, as well as the role of professionals and institutions in shaping communications
- Identify and analyze the form, structure, and techniques of mediated or public texts and images in their entirety, and consider how they function in a larger context
- Demonstrate an understanding of professional ethical principles and critically
