Description

The objective of this minor is to enhance the educational credentials of PFW students outside of the Hospitality Management degree program by preparing them to be competitive in local and national labor market opportunities that utilize knowledge of hospitality, events, and event risk management.

At the completion of this minor, students will achieve the following Student Learning Outcomes:

  1. Identify key components of the hospitality and tourism industry, including the business functions and economic significance of events.
  2. Apply event planning and operational principles to analyze the logistical, staffing, and coordination requirements of sport and special events.
  3. Analyze event operations using fundamental management concepts, including budgeting, resource allocation, and service quality.
  4. Evaluate event-related risks and apply risk management strategies to support safety, regulatory compliance, and ethical decision-making.

Minor Requirements:


You must contact the Doermer School of Business Student Success Center to declare this minor.

You must earn at least a C- in foundational and upper-level courses to satisfy the requirements of the minor program, while maintaining a minimum GPA of 2.0.  At least 9 of the required 12 credits must be completed at PFW. The maximum time allowed from the completion of the first course to satisfy all program requirements is 8 years.

Required pre-requisite outside of this minor:

BUS 20100 Financial accounting Cr. 3. This course is required for HTM 37400 Revenue Management

Student Responsibility


You are responsible for ensuring that you satisfy all graduation requirements specified for each selected program. Thus, it is essential that you develop a thorough understanding of the required courses, academic policies, and procedures governing your academic career. If you cannot complete all program requirements by your stated graduation date but fail to remove those from your plan of study, the Registrar’s Office in consultation with your academic advisor will remove unmet pursuits from your plan of study. Changing curricular records during the graduation term of application may affect state or federal financial aid awards. All requests for exceptions to specific requirements must be made in writing and may be granted only by written approval from the appropriate chair or dean.
