Mathematics (B.S.) with Actuarial Science Minor Articulation with Ivy Tech Community College, Requirements & 2-Yr Plan


Program Requirements


  1. Completion of the A.S. degree in Liberal Arts with specified courses from Ivy Tech Community College.
  2. Earned a course grade of “C-” or better in every course accepted for transfer, and a 2.0 or greater cumulative GPA based on a 4-point scale.
  3. Admitted to PFW.
  4. Must earn a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or better for graduation as well as a minimum grade of C- or better in all MATH/STAT courses for credit towards their degree. Classes below a C- may be retaken for a qualifying grade as needed.
  5. All students in the Mathematics (B.S.)  ​program are expected to meet the same student learning outcomes and program requirements. Additional program requirements exist for all students in the degree.
  6. Students are recommended to work closely with Mathematic’s lead advisor and the College of Science’s advisor to be sure they are satisfying the graduation requirements for the degree and adhering to all academic policies.

  • The following two courses are highly recommended because they help prepare students for the Society of Actuaries Exams:

  • Cr. 1.
  • Cr. 1-5.  - taken as P Practicum Cr. 1.
  •  

    The following courses are also recommended:

    • STAT 19000/29000/39000 - taken as Data Mine with Python I-III, Cr. 3.
    • STAT 24200 Introducation to Data Science Cr. 3.
    • STAT 39000 Topics in Statistics for Undergraduates - taken as Data Science Ethics Cr. 3.
    • STAT 49000 Topics in Statistics for Undergraduates - taken as Actuarial Models - Life Contingencies Cr. 3.

    You can select all, some, or none of the courses on the lists above.  The 2-Year Plan below shows when each of the recommended courses can be taken. You will need to select elective or minor courses to total 26 credits.
