The student learning outcomes for the degree are as follows:
- An ability to apply the knowledge, techniques, skills, and modern tools of the discipline to narrowly defined engineering technology activities
- Technical expertise in engineering materials, statics, and strength of materials
- Technical expertise in manufacturing processes, quality assurance, and computer-aided engineering graphics with added technical depth in computer-aided engineering graphics
- Expertise in applied physics having an emphasis in applied mechanics plus inorganic chemistry
- An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to engineering technology problems that require limited application of principles but extensive practical knowledge
- An ability to conduct standard tests and measurements, and to conduct, analyze, and interpret experiments
- An ability to function effectively as a member of a technical team
- An ability to identify, analyze, and solve narrowly defined engineering technology problems
- An ability to apply written, oral, and graphical communication in both technical and non-technical environments; and an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature
- An understanding of the need for an ability to engage in self-directed continuing professional development
- An understanding of and a commitment to address professional and ethical responsibilities, including a respect for diversity

MET A.S. Program Objectives
1. To prepare graduates with knowledge, problem solving ability and hands-on skills to enter careers in installation, manufacturing, testing, evaluation, computer-aided design, or maintenance of basic mechanical systems.
2. To develop a respect for diversity and a knowledge of contemporary professional, societal, and global issues with an understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
3. To prepare graduates for both immediate employment and continuation in the BS program.
To earn the A.S. with a major in mechanical engineering technology, you must fulfill the requirements of IPFW (Regulations ) and complete the following courses, earning a grade of C- or better in all courses.
