The student learning outcomes for the degree are as follows:

Becoming more caring, humane and functional citizens in a global, multicultural, democratic society

The B.S.Ed. in secondary education-education policy is intended to prepare students for successful careers.

To earn the B.S.Ed. in secondary education-education policy, you must satisfy the requirements of IPFW (see Part 8 ) and the College of Education and Public Policy.

Grades of C- or higher are required in each course used toward this degree.

Choose one of the following focus areas:

First Focus: Public Affairs Minor (15 credits)

Three required courses:

PPOL V170 - Introduction to Public Affairs Cr. 3.
PPOL E162 - Environment and People Cr. 3. OR
PPOL E272 - Introduction to Environmental Sciences Cr. 3.
PPOL V450 - Contemporary Issues in Public Affairs Cr. 1-3. (must take section title “Politics and Education” ; 3 credits)

PPOL V376 - Law and Public Policy Cr. 3. (Recommended)

Second Focus: Select one of the following options based on your professional interests

If none of the following options work for you, you may create a cohesive focus and have it approved by your academic advisor. The focus should be a minimum of 18 credits with at least 12 credits at 300+ level.

Internship (6 credits)

EDUA F300 - Topical Exploration in Education Cr. 1-3. Internship in Education Policy (Junior Internship; 3 credits; 75 hours minimum)
EDUA F400 - Topical Exploration in Education Cr. 1-15. Internship in Education Policy (Senior Internship; 3 credits; 160 hours minimum)

Electives (to bring program to 120 credits)

You should use no more that 9 credits of 100 or 200 level courses. This is a good place to begin working toward a university approved minor (see Part 5).
