You may be certified as a teacher of social studies after fulfilling all requirements for the B.A. with a major in history and all requirements for teacher certification. For preparation for certification in social studies, you will need to complete education courses as well as courses in supporting concentrations (i.e., economics, political science, psychology, sociology). The necessary course work for certification may exceed 120 credit hours. Full information on teacher-certification requirements is available from the College of Education and Public Policy.
Prior to your junior year, the College of Education and Public Policy requires that you successfully complete EDUC F200/M101, EDUC W200, and EDUC K306 and the Pearson Basic Skills test or approved alternative (see an education advisor for a list of approved alternatives) before admission to Block 1 education courses. The Pearson Content Exam must be completed before the student-teaching semester.
