Mild Intervention Certification

In addition to the major in elementary or secondary education, students may earn certification in mild intervention. (This certification qualifies a teacher to teach students with emotional, learning, mild, and moderate disabilities in elementary or secondary school settings, depending on your current license.) Each course in the Mild Intervention Certification must be completed with a grade of C or better. (Note: a 24-credit graduate version of this program is available. See the graduate bulletin for more details.)

EDUC K305 - Teaching the Exceptional Learner in the Elementary School Cr. 3.
EDUC K306 - Teaching Students with Special Needs in Secondary Classrooms Cr. 3.
One of the following:
EDUC K206 - Teaching Methods for Students with Special Needs Cr. 1-3.
EDUC K307 - Methods for Teaching Students with Special Needs Cr. 3.
Each of the remaining:
EDUC K370 - Introduction to Learning Disabilities Cr. 3.
EDUC K441 - Transition Across the Lifespan Cr. 3.
EDUC K453 - Management of Academic and Social Behavior Cr. 3.
EDUC K371 - Assessment and Individualized Instruction in Reading and Mathematics Cr. 3.
EDUC M301 - Laboratory/Field Experience Cr. 0-3.
EDUC K352 - Education of Children with Learning Problems (LD and EMR) Cr. 3.
EDUC M201 - Laboratory/Field Experience Cr. 0-3.
EDUC K465 - Service Delivery Systems and Consultation Strategies Cr. 3.
EDUC M470 - Practicum Cr. 3-8.

The Mild Intervention program is undergoing revisions. Students enrolled in an elementary teacher certification program will follow slightly different course requirements than students enrolled in a secondary or all-grade teacher certification program. Please see your education advisor or the special education coordinator to make sure you are selecting the appropriate “One of the following:” courses listed above.
